Adele has cheeky, natural charm. She comes across as a lovely young woman, yet she is also known for cussing like a sailor continually. When at home, she’s a bit of a clean freak and can’t go to bed until everything’s tidied up, describing the habit as ‘really anal’. She also says that she loves cooking, a new-found skill: ‘I can cook anything – lasagne, roasts, I can do pies – I can do everything.’

Adele is also a self-confessed ‘safety freak’ – in fact the opposite of her mother, who loves adventure and, at one point, was really into paragliding. According to interviewers’ observations over the years, it would seem the singer has a very on-off approach to drinking and smoking cigarettes. And she has admitted to being a drama queen in previous relationships. ‘That’s a bad thing – I can flip really quickly,’ the DVD of a Royal Albert Hall gig in September 2011 records her admitting.

Adele is an ardent film buff, who has said she likes watching six movies per week. She’s also a big football fan and actively supports her ‘hometown’ (i.e. North London) Premier League football club, Tottenham Hotspur. An exciting moment for Adele was bumping into the team at a Liverpool hotel. Manager Harry Redknapp failed to recognize her as she chatted away; she says he gave her ‘dirty looks’. In Redknapp’s defence, the chance encounter occurred before 21 was released.

Despite love for her team, Adele’s favourite colour is green, the same shade as her eyes. She has said money isn’t a big driver for her and she likes to support charities, including the famous children’s charity, Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Adele once did a cameo of herself in an episode of Channel 4’s Ugly Betty. She has a miniature dachshund called Louis Armstrong. Previously, she has said that she hates the red carpet and it gives her stomach cramps. The singer once missed a friend’s hen do to attend the VMAs in the line of duty but was ‘bitter’ about having to do so. She thinks Twilight star Robert Pattinson is hot and loves shock rappers Odd Future.

When asked what superpower she’d most like to have, she firstly said ‘sharp night vision’ before settling on invisibility, so that she could ‘listen to people bitching or something’.

The Adele story took another turn in a year during which she won six Grammys, two BRITS, two Ivors, broke a string of US and UK chart records and topped The Sunday Times Rich List of musicians under the age of 30 – she achieved something to cap it all: a baby!

On 29 June 2012, Adele announced her pregnancy on her official website. Fellow singers were quick to congratulate the star, with Lily Allen tweeting, ‘Wow. Adele’s preggers! Congratumalations to her and Simon!’
