Personalities | Jim Lauderdale | Alt. Country & The Bluegrass Revival

(Vocals, guitar, b. 1957)

Lauderdale pays his bills by writing hook-laden hits for mainstream-country performers such as George Strait, The Dixie Chicks, Vince Gill and Mark Chesnutt, but his own recordings reflect a penchant for traditional country and a quirky sense of humour that land him in the alt.-country category. He grew up in South Carolina, obsessed with bluegrass, and eventually recorded two albums with his hero, Ralph Stanley. Lauderdale’s songs have been recorded by such alt.-country acts as Shelby Lynne, Kelly Willis, The Derailers, Donna The Buffalo and Joy Lynn White. He was the first winner of the Americana Music Association Artist Of The Year Award in 2002.
