Welsh composer

Jenkins played for more than a decade in the progressive rock band Soft Machine before attracting wider attention as a composer of music for advertising. A movement composed for De Beers diamond merchants, and scored for strings in Baroque concerto grosso style, became the Allegretto of his suite Palladio, while his best-known single track, Adiemus, featuring harmonized (often wordless) voices, strings and an array of world percussion instruments, was used by Delta Airlines from 1994 and later released on the bestselling album Songs of Sanctuary (1995). Jenkins has worked with many leading singers, including Bryn Terfel, Kiri Te Kanawa and Rolando Villazón. The Armed Man: a Mass for Peace is estimated to have received almost 1,000 live performances since its premiere in 2000.
