(Vocals, b. 1977)

Shakira’s debut album Magia was actually released in 1991, when Ms. Ripoll was just 15. Singing in Spanish for her first four albums, it was not until 2001’s Laundry Service that the singer ‘crossed over’ to the English language, a move which prompted hit after hit, most notably ‘Whenever, Wherever’. Her Colombian ancestry and flamenco themes remained, and more importantly, appealed, and she has gone on to win numerous MTV awards.
