‘Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love)’, 2000
Italian DJ Cristiano Spiller’s ‘Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love)’ was helped in no small part by vocalist Sophie Ellis-Bextor, who herself would have something of a one-hit wonder two years later with ‘Murder On The Dancefloor’. Initially an instrumental, Spiller invited Ellis-Bexter to guest on the track, giving it more commercial appeal and securing a No. 1 in the UK. ‘Groovejet’ was ultimately one of the biggest club hits of the year, but like with others of the time (Modjo’s ‘Lady (Hear Me Tonight)’), the British public at large were not about to indulge a full-blown career by the artist, and Spiller never enjoyed such popularity again.
