Personalities | Tinsley Ellis | Contemporary Era | Jazz & Blues

(Guitar, vocals, b. 1957)

Blues rocker Ellis grew up in Florida and emerged in the 1980s from Atlanta, Georgia, where he led the Heartfixers, whose albums include a disc featuring blues shouter Nappy Brown. Ellis blends the dynamic technique of B.B. King, Freddie King, Albert King, Otis Rush and Magic Sam with the Cream-era pyrotechnics of Eric Clapton. His evolution as a songwriter and musical pluralist, incorporating elements of funk and soul, is captured best on 2000’s Kingpin.
