Live Aid

Two and a half years after the final show of their farewell tour, The Who reunited to play Live Aid at Wembley Stadium on 13 July 1985. The worldwide event, masterminded by Bob Geldof’s Band Aid charity, was to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia. The band’s four-song performance was little short of shambolic at times, and was completely under-rehearsed. The live TV transmission failed during their set for the only time during the day, but somehow it all felt right. Never let it be said that The Who ever did anything the easy way.
