Live At Leeds Remastered
The box set was the trigger for all the band’s albums to be re-released with additional tracks. The first one to receive this treatment was also probably the most anticipated. Live At Leeds remixed and remastered was released in February 1995, and contained the entire show from Leeds with the exception of Tommy (which followed in a further release in 2001). The record companies had realized that fans wanted quality as well as quantity, and produced immaculate packaging to match the product. Although the reissue programme was to have its detractors, it proved to be a success.
The Who Fan Convention
The Who’s old haunt of Shepherd’s Bush was an apt area to hold the UK’s first fan convention. A group of six English fans spent 12 months putting together the day-long event at the Bottom Line, which culminated in a two-hour performance by Roger Daltrey and John Entwistle, together with Zak Starkey and Simon Townshend. The large audience of fans from around the world, including the cream of the contemporary Britpop scene such as Noel Gallagher and Elastica, witnessed a gig that turned out to be the catalyst for the band reuniting and returning to the stage with Quadrophenia a few months later.
