March–April

Back Down Under

The band’s visit to Australia in 2004 seemed to have settled the bad blood between them and the locals that had simmered for over 35 years. Having agreed to perform at the 2009 Australian Grand Prix – the inaugural event in the Formula One season – they took the opportunity to arrange further shows, turning it into a six-date mini-tour. The Grand Prix performance took place on 29 March at the Melbourne circuit in Albert Park, and The Who sang out a 20-song set. It was the culmination of a good day for the Brits – earlier in the day, Jensen Button had won the race.
